Hello, I am Vaishnavi, an SDG Reporter, and today I am excited to share with you my observations about how the Government of India is working hard to achieve Sustainable Development Goal 5 (Gender Equality). As a student passionate about creating a better world for all, I was amazed to learn about the different schemes and programs highlighted in the NITI Aayog report. These initiatives are not just government efforts—they are a step toward empowering every girl and woman in our country.

Here’s what I learned about the amazing work being done for gender equality:

1. Beti Bachao Beti Padhao Scheme

This scheme focuses on saving and educating the girl child. It’s not just about campaigns but also about changing how people think. The idea is to make sure every girl gets a chance to live, learn, and shine. I think this program is so important, especially in areas where girls don’t get equal opportunities.

2. Sukanya Samriddhi Yojana (Girl Child Prosperity Scheme)

This scheme helps parents save money for their daughters. It gives them financial security for things like education and even marriage later. I feel this initiative shows that our society is beginning to value the future of girls more seriously.

3. MUDRA Yojana

This scheme provides loans to women entrepreneurs. It’s about making women financially independent. I feel inspired knowing that women are now running their own businesses and contributing to the economy.

4. Janani Suraksha Yojana (JSY)

Mothers are so important in every family, and this scheme helps keep them safe during and after childbirth. It focuses on encouraging hospital deliveries, especially for mothers in rural areas. I think this is a great way to ensure the health of both mothers and their babies.

5. Shakti Sadan

This is a shelter for women who have faced violence. It gives them a safe space, legal help, and counseling. In my opinion, this initiative is a lifeline for women who need support to rebuild their lives.

6. Kasturba Gandhi Balika Vidyalaya (KGBV)

Education is the foundation of gender equality, and this scheme ensures girls from disadvantaged backgrounds get free, quality education. I believe this is a huge step in helping girls reach their full potential.

7. Pragati Scholarship Scheme for Girls

This program encourages girls to study technical and higher education fields like engineering and medicine. It makes me happy to see that more girls are being supported to enter professions where they’ve been underrepresented.

8. Women Helpline Scheme

With this 24/7 helpline, women in distress can seek help anytime, anywhere. I think this is a brilliant initiative because sometimes all a person needs is immediate assistance and someone to talk to.

9. One-Stop Centre Scheme

These centers provide help to women under one roof—medical care, legal support, counseling, and even temporary shelter. I feel this is a great way to make sure women in need don’t have to run from place to place for help.

My Observation

While these initiatives are incredibly impactful, I feel that awareness about them is still limited, especially in rural areas. It’s important that more people, including students like us, take the responsibility to spread the word about these programs. As a girl myself, I understand how crucial it is for every girl to feel safe, valued, and empowered. These government schemes are not just policies; they are promises of a better, more equal future for all of us.

By working together—students, communities, and governments—I believe we can achieve true gender equality. Let’s make sure we support and celebrate these initiatives, and above all, ensure that no one is left behind!
